MOSES PROJECT

MOSES PROJECT: Participants

Marvin Anael Sanchez Martinez

Home: Plan Grande, Concepcion
Birthday: September 26, 1992
Siblings: 1 older and 4 younger
Education: Finished grade 7 in 2007

Marvin is the other young man in our program from Plan Grande. Marvin spent this past year studying grade 7 by correspondence just like Javier and is now looking forward to sitting in a normal class room with his mates.

The thing that stands out about Marvin is that his family build a small mill behind their house where they process sugar cane from the region. The last time that Fredy and Phil went to visit Marvin just before the start of the program, we found him working in the mill with his dad and 2 brothers -- boiling the sugar cane juice and then filling the molds. When the sugar cane cools off, they take out the flower pot style pieces of cane and store it for the buyers that pass through the country buying from the various small community mills. This product is then used as sweetener in everything from bakeries to pop.

The grape vine was at work in getting the word to Marvin about the program. A university student of Fredy's, who also happens to be a teacher in Dulce Nombre, informed Marvin's older brother about the project. Marvin's brother told his dad all about it and his dad then sat down with Marvin. Marvin is interested in the academic classes and the agricultural classes with Fredy.
