MOSES PROJECT

MOSES PROJECT: Participants

Darwin Nolberto Dubon Hernandez

Home: Yaruconte, Dolores
Birthday: July 14, 1992
Siblings: 1 older and 1 younger
Education: Finished grade 6 in 2004

Two years in a row, we have selected a "Darwin" as the last participant -- in neither case because they were the least appropriate, but in both cases because we had only 7 members selected from the interviews and returned to the rural zone seeking our 8th young man. Like the Darwin that joined us in the first year, Darwin is also a quiet young man, but very willing and able to get involved in the action when called.

Darwin is likely our participant who has spent the longest time out of school before joining the program to start studying once again. Over the past 3 years, Darwin has been helping his dad in the farming with traditional crops like beans, corn and coffee. Some of their crops which are not so traditional are sugar cane (not too uncommon) and maracuya -- a fruit that is processed into one of Honduras' favorite fruit juices. Darwin's family has their house ready to connect to the electricity and at the start of our year was simply waiting for the national electric company to hook it up. We hope they're faster for his family than they were for the farm.
